When we talk about motivation vs flow we talk about how consistency, building habits and having a solid routine have an impact on your health journey and reaching your goals.

Most people wait around for motivation to go to the gym or do a workout, the typical ‘’I will start on Monday’’, ‘’New week new me’’. But then come Monday and the motivation is lost. Being in solid routine and state of flow means you dont always have to rely on motivation to take action.

This is when consistency plays a huge part. Consistency really is key and will help you build your routines and habits to create that state of flow. The hardest part of taking action is taking that first step. May people are confused and think that motivation is going to help them take the first step but this actually comes after action. Motivation is created after you take action.

So how can you take the first step? Start off small, schedule in a time each day or each week where you will go fo a 30 minute walk for example, once you create a schedule and you have locked in time, its harder to dismiss. You are more likely to give up or put it off when you dont schedule in a set time.

Keep consistent and this will build your routine and habits and become part of your daily life which you wont have to even think twice about. Its also important to remember that daily habits can change from time to time especially with the need to adapt to different environments and sometimes building these habits and routines will take time. But if you remain consistent, these changes will get easier and easier over time.

When you start noticing the difference and seeing changes, it becomes a reminder to stay consistent. You know how good you feel after a workout but you know your energy levels are going to be higher and you are going to be more productive.

If you feel like you are waiting to be motivated to take action, think about little actions you can start now towards your goals.

  1. Plan your day ahead - scheduling in your workouts

  2. Schedule in a short 30 minute walk, start with small simple goals.

  3. Small home workout - dont have to start at the gym

  4. Small steps to build the consistency

  5. Make extra for dinner to meal prep for lunch the next day
