The importance of maintaining a routine

The current circumstances surrounding COVID-19 and social distancing has pretty much thrown our normal routines and daily life’s out of whack. In this podcast episode, we speak about the best way to create a routine to suit you and why it is important if you want to keep on track of reaching your goals.
With many of us staying home or working from home due to social distancing, we are no longer commuting to work, going to the gym or in our regular routines. Which also means we aren’t moving our bodies as much as we usually do.
The first couple of weeks of social distancing and WFM was definitely hard, especially having to figure out a new routine that would work best for us. We wanted to share some tips around how we overcame this overwhelming period and hopefully it helps others as well.
Working from home or being at home, can easily lead to developing new bad habits considering all the distractions around as well such as Netflix, other streaming services, snacks and video games. Not saying these are totally bad, its ok to indulge in these every now and then but not everyday.
That’s why its important to set a daily to do list or schedule, whether it’s the night before or the morning of, write out what you need to do to help you keep accountable and on track of your goals.
Writing out your to do list also help clear your mind so you aren’t stressed or overwhelmed by all the things you have to accomplish in the day.
Another great tip is to set a dedicated work or exercise area, when you dedicate a specific area to a specific task, you are more likely to be motivated, get in the zone and accomplish your task. So, dedicate an area of your house to your exercise.
If you are working from home, it’s critical to include taking breaks in your daily routine, its super easy to work overtime or forget to take a lunch break and you will most likely burn out.
So schedule in some time to step away from your desk, go for a walk or do a quick workout to clear your mind and refresh.
